Columbia Water and Light has an ongoing program called Tree Power. It offers all electric customers a free 6- to 10-foot shade tree. Limit one tree per electric meter. You can either file your application online or over the phone (874-7325). The website explains the process and has the link to the online application form.
You will receive a coupon for the tree in the mail and redeem the coupon at Superior Garden Center. The following trees are currently available under this program: red maple, river birch, crabapple, pin oak, and red oak.
If you do avail of the free shade tree, be sure to call 1-800-DIG-RITE before you dig any holes in your yard!
